(Equivocal results may indicate a lack of antibody development to the Mumps vaccine or an antibody level that has waned throughout the years. For all equivocal results re-vaccination should be considered if clinically indicated. Re-vaccination is not typically recommended more than twice for negative or equivocal titers.)

Clinical Significance
Mumps, a member of the paramyxovirus group, is a communicable self-limiting disease transmitted by airborne droplets. The incubation period averages from 16 – 18 days. Although 30 to 40% of mumps cases remain asymptomatic, 60 – 70% have symptoms including the painful enlargement of salivary glands and, testicular pain (males) and lower abdominal pain (females.) The detection of the Mumps IgG antibody can be used to show immunity and can detect seroconversion in individuals.
