Clinical Significance
The glucose tolerance test measure the body’s response to sugar (glucose) and can be used to screen for type 2 diabetes, often before the fasting blood sugar becomes abnormal. The fasting blood glucose is measured before consumption of a specified dose of a glucose solution is consumed. Periodic blood glucose measurements are performed to determine whether normal metabolism of glucose occurs.
