Clinical Significance
Urine Tract Infections (UTI) are among the most common bacterial infections in the health care setting. UTIs are important complications of diabetes, renal disease, renal transplantation, and structural abnormalities. UTIs are the leading cause of gram negative sepsis in hospitalized patients and origin of about half of all nosocomial infections caused by urinary catheters.
