Clinical Significance
Eosinophils in the nasal secretions of patients with rhinitis and in the airways of asthmatics are diagnostic of an allergic process. Eosinophils are known to play a role in fibrosis, thrombosis and the activation of mast cells. Eosinophils also play a role in the immunologic defense of parasites. A predomination of neutrophils may indicate an infectious process
