Clinical Significance
This assay is used to detect antibodies to the surface component of the Hepatitis B virus (anti-HBs).
It can be used as an aid in the diagnosis of individuals with chronic hepatitis B virus and is typically used in conjunction with other HBV serological markers. A result > 12 mIU/mL (with no history of vaccination) typically indicates resolved infection from Hepatitis B and should coincide with the presence of the Hepatitis B core antibody.
It can be used as an aid in the determination of susceptibility to hepatitis B virus infection in individuals prior to or following HBV vaccination or where vaccination status is unknown. Results > 12 mIU/ml indicate the patient has protective immunity in accordance with the World Health Organization (WHO).
