Fresh whole blood (venous or capillary) collected in a capillary tube, plastic syringe or free flowing finger-stick without anticoagulant.
HP Clinics: Free flowing fingerstick, only

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Avoid strong repetitive pressure ('milking') as it may cause hemolysis or tissue fluid contamination of the specimen.

Limitations
Poor technique in sample collection may compromise results. INR testing is not reccomended for patients being given Cubicin (daptomycin for injection).

10.6 - 13.4 seconds


Clinical Significance
The INR is a whole blood determination used for the monitoring of oral anti-coagulation therapy such as Coumadin (warfarin).
