Instructions
Collection: Collect a throat swab using standard procedure. Use care to avoid the tongue, sides and top of mouth. Swab vigorously over each tonsillar area and posterior pharynx. Exudates should be touched.
Processing: Inoculate BAP plate immediately. Dry throat swabs will be accepted up to 1 hour post collection

Clinical Significance
Group A Beta Streptococcus is the primary cause of bacterial pharyngitis. The early detection and treatment of this organism reduces the likelihood of sequelae.
