Limitations
Prolonged DRVVT Screen and DRVVT Confirm times are obtained on plasmas from patients with factor II, V and X deficiencies as well as those on warfarin therapy. If clinically relevant, individual assays of factors II, V and X should be performed.
The Dilute Russell’s Viper Venom tests (screen and confirm) are used in conjunction with the patient’s original screening tests (PT, APTT, and TT) and possible mixing studies and STACLOTS to determine the presence of a lupus anticoagulant.

Clinical Significance
Lupus anticoagulants (LA’s) are autoantibodies against negatively charged phospholipid or complexes of phospholipid with either beta-2-glycoprotein or clotting factors such as prothrombin. They occur in various conditions, especially autoimmune disease. LA’s have traditionally been detected using phospholipid responsive clotting tests, such as the activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT), kaolin clotting time (KCT) and DRVVT
