Clinical Significance
This assay is intended for the qualitative determination of antibodies to the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) type 1, and / or type 2. It is to be used as an aid in the diagnosis of HIV infection and AIDS.
HIV Antibody specimens reported as Negative (Non Reactive) may be falsely negative during the
“window period”. If the patient has had recent exposure (within the past four weeks), consider contacting Infectious Diseases for clarification.
HIV Antibody specimens reported as Positive (Reactive) should be correlated with supplemental testing results. The significance of reactive HIV antibody test results depends on risk factors and supplemental results. Consider contacting Infectious Diseases for clarification.
