Digoxin specimens should be drawn at least six to eight hours after the last dose. If toxicity is suspected, specimens may be drawn at any time.

Limitations
The Digoxin Immune FAB (Digibind), which is used in the treatment of digoxin intoxication, has been found to interfere with immunoassay measurments. Digoxin measurments in patients that have been administered Digibind should be interpreted with caution.

Clinical Significance
Digoxin is a widely prescribed cardiac glycoside indicated in the treatment of congestive heart failure and supraventricular arrhythmias. Digoxin measurements are used to monitor patient compliance and therapy, and to diagnose potential overdose.
