Clinical Significance
Bile leakage into the body cavity gives a very high fluid bilirubin concentration, many-fold higher than a patient's serum concentrations. Body fluid to serum bilirubin concentration ratios are generally less than 0.6 in transudates with the ratio in exudates being higher.
