May reflex to the following: Methylmalonic Acid; Intrinsic Factor Blocking Antibody; Gastrin
If the Vitamin B12 (component) result is less than 150 pg/mL, Intrinsic Factor Binding Antibody, Progressive, will be added at an additional charge (CPT code: 86340).
If the Vitamin B12 result is between 150 - 300 pg/mL, Methylmalonic Acid, Progressive, will be added at an additional charge (CPT code: 83921).
If the Intrinsic Factor Binding Antibody (component) result is either Negative or Borderline, Gastrin will be added at an additional charge (CPT code: 82941). There is no reflexing to Gastrin when IFBA is Positive.
If MMA (component) is > 244 nmol/L, then Intrinsic Factor Binding Antibody, Progressive will be added at an additional charge (CPT code: 86340).

Instructions
Dietary supplements containing biotin may interfere in assays and may skew analyte results to be either falsely high or falsely low. For patients receiving the recommended daily doses of biotin, draw samples at least 8 hours following the last biotin supplementation. For patients on mega-doses of biotin supplements, draw samples at least 72 hours following the last biotin supplementation.
