Preferred Specimen
Minimum: 7 mL aliquot of a 24-hour urine collection, preserved with 25 mL 50% acetic acid during collection, submitted in a acid washed, metal free container

Patient Preparation
Avoid seafood consumption for 48 hours prior to sample collection.

Other Acceptable Specimens
Aliquot of a 24-hour urine collection, preserved with 30 mL 6N HCl during collection, submitted in a acid-washed, metal-free container

Instructions
Tests performed on a non acid washed/non metal free container may not accurately reflect the patient's level. If a non-trace element container is received, it will be accepted for testing. However, elevated results shall be reported with a message that a re-submission with a trace element tube/container is recommended.
