CPT Codes

A TB probe will be performed on all isolates submitted (CPT code: 87149). If the probe is negative, identification by sequencing will be performed at an additional charge (CPT code: 87153).

If TB is isolated for the first time or three months after the first isolate from a patient, susceptibilities will be performed at an additional charge (CPT code: 87190 per drug).

Preferred Specimen
Pure culture on solid mycobacterial medium (e.g., Lowenstein-Jensen agar or Middlebrook slant)

Other Acceptable Specimens
Pure culture in liquid mycobacterial medium (e.g. Middlebrook 7H9 broth)

Transport Temperature
Room temperature

Specimen Stability
Room temperature: 7 days
Refrigerated: Not established
Frozed: Unacceptable
