Instructions
Stool specimen should be inoculated into an orange Protocol Fecal C&S Transport System vial. Fill vial with enough specimen to reach the fill line. If transport media is not utilized, the specimen must arrive within 1 hour of collection. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only. Note: 1. A rectal swab specimen, although not preferred, is acceptable. Use a BBL CultureSwab Plus swab to collect specimen. 2. The general recommended frequency of stool examination for enteric pathogens is 1 specimen/day. 3. Only 2 specimens will be accepted per patient/hospital stay due to limited yield of additional specimens. No specimens will be accepted after the third hospital day. 4. Stool and rectal swabs are considered different specimens. 5. Specimen contaminated with urine is not acceptable.
