URINE CULTURE

Message
Identification and antimicrobial susceptibilities (if applicable) are performed on pure cultures (1 organism) >10,000 CFU/ml and on clearly predominant isolates >10,000 CFU/ml in a mixed culture. If more than 3 organisms are recovered, a report of multiple species is made. However, clinical considerations take precedence over these general rules and the attending physician or consultant may request they be overridden in any specific case.

A positive bacteria result, depending on the organism isolated, may reflex additional identification and/or susceptibility charges
