Instructions
"Inpatients: 50 mL (2 oz.) fecal specimen submitted in a Protocol Zn-PVA/Formalin Transport Kit (grey/pink vials). Rectal swab is not acceptable. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only. Do not refrigerate.
Note: 1. Barium, antacids, and mineral oil interfere with examination. Delay specimen collection for a minimum of 5 days after administration of these agents.
2. Antibiotics may suppress number of amoebas present for several weeks.
3. The general recommended frequency of stool examination for parasites is 1 specimen/day for first 3 days of a hospital stay. No specimens will be accepted after fourth hospital day.
4. Only 3 specimens accepted/patient/hospital stay.
Outpatients:
