Message
If Chlamydia, Mycoplasma, Herpes, Trichomonas or Haemophilus ducreyi is suspected, a specific order is required. Anaerobic culture procedures should be used for cultures obtained during pelvic surgery, laparoscopy or culdocentesis. A gram stain will be performed on male samples only.

Instructions
"Note: The viability of Neisseria gonorrhoeae decreases after 6 hours. If laboratory will not receive specimen within 6 hours of collection and Neisseria gonorrhoeae is suspected, order #GCA ""Neisseria gonorrhoeae by Amplified DNA Probe,"" and submit required specimen.

Specimen must arrive within 24 hours of collection.

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Cervical or Vaginal (Females)
1. Collect specimen using a BBL CultureSwab Plus.
2. Inoculate Thayer-Martin medium directly, if possible.
3. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only. Do not refrigerate.
Note: 1. Specimen source is required on request form for processing.
2. One specimen/24 hour period/site.

Urethra (Males)
1. Collect specimen using a calcium alginate swab (Calgiswab ).
2. Inoculate Thayer-Martin medium directly, if possible.
3. Forward promptly at ambient temperature only. Do not refrigerate.

2. One specimen/24 hour period/site.
