Instructions
1.Tip the patient's head back and check to see which nostril presents the most secretions under visual inspection. 2.Gently insert the Puritan Sterile Foam Tipped Applicator nasal swab into the nostril until resistance is met at the level of the turbinates (less than one inch into the nostril). 3.Rotate the swab a few times against the nasal wall and remove it from the nostril. 4.Insert swab tip down into the original swab packaging. 5.Maintain sterility and forward promptly. Note: 1.Specimen must arrive in Microbiology within 1 hour of collection. 2.Specimen source is required on request form for processing. 3.Specimen should be collected during acute phase of illness when greatest amount of viral shedding occurs. 4.Excessively mucoid specimens may interfere with test performance.
