Instructions
Specimen collection should occur as soon as possible after 24 hours of age. Specimens should not be collected prior to 24 hours of age unless the baby is being transfused and/or discharged before 24 hours of age. A heel stick is the preferred mode of collection whenever possible. Large, free flowing droplets of blood must be collected onto a newborns screening card. All seven circles must be completely filled.
