Preferred Specimen
One 10mL ISOLATOR Tube (available from Materials Distribution)
Pediatric: 1.5 mL, available from Microbiology Laboratory. The ISOLATOR 1.5 microbial tube is recommended for use on pediatric
patients including neonates. Due to low blood volume collection by this device, the ISOLATOR 1.5 tube is NOT recommended for adult
patients.

Adult (10mL)

Instructions
Blood cultures must be collected in ISOLATOR tubes (available from Materials Distribution)


Transport Temperature
Ambient, deliver to lab immediately


Specimen Stability

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
> 24 hour transit time to lab
