  1. Preferred specimen is a mid-stream, clean catch sample.
Additional Information:
  1. If a urine culture is needed, submit a separate order and specimen in gray-top urine culture tube.  UA-preservative tubes are not acceptable for culture testing.

Frozen: Unacceptable

Unpreserved Urine
Room temperature: 2 hours
Refrigerated: 24 hours
Frozen: Unacceptable




Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Mislabeled and unlabeled specimens, delay in being sent to the laboratory/prolonged exposure at room temperature, contamination with feces, and QNS (quantity not sufficient) status.
