Cryoglobulin, Qualitative with % Cryocrit
Test CodeLAB5210496
Quest Code
36562
CPT Codes
82595
Preferred Specimen
6 mL serum collected in each of three separate red-top tubes (no gel)
Patient Preparation
Overnight fasting is required
Minimum Volume
3 mL
Instructions
Draw a full large (10mL) red top and place in a heel warmer immediately after collection. Avoid hemolysis.
LAB: Time-in and deliver to Reference immediately. Do not remove heel warmer. Do not plunge.
LAB (after hours) / Reference:
Note: If the sample is NOT kept at 37°C during all processing steps, the cryoprecipitate if present can precipitate out of solution and be lost in the clot or during the centrifugation process and result in a false negative result. Transport screw-capped vial at room temperature. Do not refrigerate or freeze.
Note: No tests can be added or poured off this tube; cryocrit and cryoglobulin evaluation only.
LAB: Time-in and deliver to Reference immediately. Do not remove heel warmer. Do not plunge.
LAB (after hours) / Reference:
- Set the timer for (1) hour and allow serum sample to clot inside the 37°C incubator. Do not remove until specimen is ready to be spun.
- Pre-warm a centrifuge by running it for 10 minutes at any RPM.
- Centrifuge specimen in a pre-warmed centrifuge for 10 minutes at 3300 RPM.
- After centrifugation, immediately pipette 2-3 mL of serum into a transport vial and place in the reference rack. Do not plunge. Cryoglobulin stability is 72 hours at room temperature.

Setup Schedule
Set up: Daily; Report Available: 5-7 days
Reference Range
Cryoglobulin Qualitative | Negative |
% Cryocrit | None detected |
Clinical Significance
The cryocrit is primarily intended for following a patient with previously defined and quantitated cryoglobulins. The cryocrit may consist of cryoglobulins, fibrins or mixtures of cryoglobulins and fibrins. If not previously characterized, consider ordering Cryoglobulin Screen with Reflex to Cryoglobulin Profile, Serum.
