Gray Top tube acceptable
Instructions
Fasting 8 - 12 hours recommended Included in Basic Metabolic Panel and Comprehensive Metabolic Panel. LAB: Centrifuge and analyze promptly. Serum acceptable. Serum or plasma: Hemolysis decreases results. Dilute grossly lipemic specimens. Separate specimens within 1 hour of collection.
Specimen Stability
Ambient: up to 24 hours.
Refrigerated: 7 days.
Frozen: 1 year.
Refrigerated: 7 days.
Frozen: 1 year.
Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Grossly Hemolyzed, contaminated, not enough volume
FDA Status
Approved
Setup Schedule

Report Available
Same day
Limitations
In fresh specimens, catalase released from the lysis of red blood cells causes a negative bias in glucose results. The degree of bias is proportional to the degree of hemolysis. In fresh samples, a negative bias of up to 10% may be observed with a level of hemolysis associated with a hemoglobin concentration of 250 mg/dL.
Reference Range
65 - 99 mg/dL
