Capillary whole blood

1 drop after 2-3 drops are wiped off first.

Specimen Stability

Remove a microcuvette from the vial and immediately replace cap tightly to avoid humidity damage to the remaining microcuvettes. Fill within 3 minutes of removal from vial.

Report Available

Results from Point of Care hemoglobin testing are interfaced to the EMR.

Limitations

The measurement should be made as soon as possible after the blood has been drawn into the microcuvette. If readings are made after 10 minutes of filling, false results may be obtained.

Reference Range

Adult Female (14 years and above): 12.0-16.0 g/dL
Adult Male (14 years and above): 14.0-18.0 g/dL
