Preferred Specimen
Light green top tube (lithium heparin plasma)


Minimum Volume
Whole blood: 600 uL (one full light-green-top microtainer or two full red-top microtainers).

Serum/plasma: 300 uL.


Other Acceptable Specimens
Gold top (serum separator tube) or Red Top


Instructions
LAB: Serum acceptable. Do not use grossly lipemic samples. Separate within 4 hours of collection.

Limitations
Grossly lipemic samples may show large negative bias. Certain drugs and clinical conditions are known to alter lipase activity in vivo.

23 - 300 U/L
300 - 500 U/L May be non-pancreatic lipase.
