Instructions
On ice ** DELIVER IMMEDIATELY TO CHEMISTRY
Draw the specimen when the patient is at rest.
Draw blood sample within 3 minutes of applying tourniquet and
before releasing tourniquet.
Preferred collection is to draw blood sample without the use
of a tourniquet.
LAB: Specimen must be centrifuged within 15 minutes of being drawn.
Blood is best collected in a container of sodium fluoride/potassium oxalate, followed by immediate chilling
of the specimen and separation of the cells within 15 minutes.
Lactic acid on separated plasma is stable for up to 8 hours at Ambient: or 14 days under refrigeration
