Instructions
Testing is scheduled in advance, O.R. responsible for notifying
lab at least 24 hours before surgery and providing phone extension for
notification of results.

The collection tube label, in addition to the standard patient information,
should include the date and time of draw, employee # and draw interval
i.e. Baseline. Documentation in HIS/LIS Acceptable

LAB:

Lab will place process Intraoperative PTH orders upon receipt of specimen and call
results to phone extension provided.

WALK SPECIMENS DOWN TO LAB - Use downtime order form if unable to order in LIS


Specimen Stability
Serum and plasma samples may be stored for up to 2 days at 2–8 °C (36–46 °F) or 4 weeks at -20 °C (-4 °F).


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Do not use turbid specimens. Turbidity in specimens may affect test results.
Do not use hemolyzed specimens.

Limitations
Biotin levels in serum remain elevated for up to 24 hours after oral or intravenous biotin administration Heterophilic antibodies in serum or plasma samples may cause interference in immunoassays. 13 These antibodies may
be present in blood samples from individuals regularly exposed to animals or who have been treated with animal serum
products. Results which are inconsistent with clinical observations indicate the need for additional testing. Certain drugs and clinical conditions are known to alter PTH concentrations in vivo. For additional information, refer to
