Instructions
NASOPHARYNGEAL WASHING/ASPIRATE
1. Tilt patient’s head at 70 degree angle.
2. Draw 1 mL saline into rubber bulb or syringe.
3. Instill saline into nasal cavity.
4. Immediately recover sample by aspiration.
5. Place recovered specimen into sample container.
6. Label source as nasopharyngeal washing/aspirate.
NASOPHARYNX
1. Gently insert a mini tip swab into the posterior nasopharynx via the nose.
2. Rotate the swab slowly for 3–5 seconds to absorb secretions.
3. Remove the swab and place in transport media.
