Instructions
1. Disinfect blood culture ISOLATOR tube by rubbing stopper with 70% alcohol and allowing it to dry.
2. Palpate for vein and mark with fingernail impression.
3. Using ChloraPrep One-Step Kit, pinch the wings on the applicator to break the ampule. Do not touch sponge. Wet the sponge by repeatedly pressing and releasing the sponge against the treatment area until liquid is visible on the skin. Scrub the venipuncture site for 2 minutes with the alcohol sponge and allow to dry for 1 minute. Discard sponge.
4. Perform venipuncture using a vacutainer safety lok butterfly needle. Do NOT repalpate the venipuncture site. Collect 10 mL of blood if an adult patient, or 1.5 mL of blood if a pediatric patient.
5. Mix and properly label the ISOLATOR tube.
