C Difficile Toxin/GDH Antigen with Reflex to PCR

If the GDH antigen is positive and the toxin A and B is negative or the GDH antigen is negative and the toxin A and B is positive, the Clostridium difficile by PCR test will be reflexed and performed at an additional charge.

Unformed stool passed directly into a clean, dry container


Instructions
1. Pass unformed stool directly into a clean, dry container. Unformed stool is stool that takes the shape of its container.
2. Secure cap. Label specimen noting source of stool.
3.  According to Guthrie CDI policy, the stool should be diarrheal stool (diarrhea is defined as > 3 liquid stools in 24 hours) and the Nursing Flowchart for Appropriate C. difficile Testing should be completed prior to specimen collection.
