An increase of plasma glucose greater than 30 mg/dL is
considered normal. An increase of plasma glucose
less than 20 mg/dL over the fasting level, with
symptoms, is considered abnormal, and is evidence of
lactose deficiency.

Clinical Significance
Results may be used to evaluate deficiency of small bowel mucosal lactase, which may be associated with intolerance to lactose, manifested by diarrhea and other symptoms following ingestion of milk.
