Clinical Significance

The Xpert Xpress SARS-CoV-2 test is a rapid, real-time RT-PCR test intended for the qualitative detection and differentiation of SARS-CoV-2 viral RNA in a nasopharyngeal swab. SARS-CoV-2 RNA identified by this test is generally detectable in upper respiratory specimens during the acute phase of infection. A result of Detected is indicative of the presence of the identified virus, but does not rule out bacterial infection or co-infection with other pathogens not detected by the test. Clinical correlation with patient history and other diagnostic information is necessary to determine patient infection status. The agent detected may not be the definite cause of disease.
