Preferred Specimen
4 mL 3.2% Sodium Citrate (lt. blue-top) plasma
in 4 - 1.0 mL frozen aliquot tubes.
3.8% Sodium Citrate is unacceptable.
Draw blood in light blue-top tube containing
3.2% sodium citrate, mix gently by inverting
3-4 times. Centrifuge 15 minutes at 1500 g
within 1 hour of collection. Using a plastic pipette,
remove plasma, taking care to avoid the
WBC/platelet buffy layer and place into a plastic vial.
Centrifuge this plastic vial a second time and
transfer platelet-poor plasma into 2 new
plastic vials. Mark tubes as citrated plasma.
Freeze immediately; store and transport frozen.
When multiple frozen plasma tests are requested,
please submit separate frozen aliquots.
Label each aliquot tube as citrated plasma.

Minimum Volume
0.5 mL X 4
