Clinical Significance
Rho (D) immune globulin (human) is a sterile solution containing 300 ug of IgG anti-Rho(D) for use in preventing the immunization in Rh negative female exposed to Rh positive red cells. It is indicated for Rh negative females who give birth to Rh positive or Du positive infants, and for abortion or termination of pregnancy. Includes fetal cell screen to detect excessive Rh positive fetal cells which may indicate additional doses of Rh immune globulin may be needed to prevent Rh sensitization. ***REFLEX: If qualitative fetal cell screen test is positive, then Kleihauer-Betke (fetal hemoglobin) is performed to quantitate the fetal-maternal hemorrhage. If indicated, the required dose of Rh immune globulin is calculated.
