Clinical Significance
Immunoturbidimetric assay for the determination of prealbumin in human serum. Prealbumin has a short half-life of approximately 2 days. Decreased hepatocellular synthesis caused by acute liver damamge or dietary protein deficiency is exhibited by a very rapid decrease in serum prealbumin levels.Prealbumin can act as a negative acute phase reactant, wiht its concentration decreasing rapidly during inflammatory processes.
