Instructions
For best results, specimens should be collected after onset of symptoms. Collect sample into a clean dry container or obtained from a diaper. Liquid stool is preferred, and should be placed in a plastic container.

Clinical Significance
Rotavirus is a major cause of acute gastroenteritis, especially in children 6 to 24 months old. In addition, rotavirus infections can produce sever illness as well as asymptomatic infection in adults. The incubation period of rotavirus infection is usually one to three days, followed by gastroenteritis with and average duration of five to eight days. Virus titers in stool reach a maximum shortly after the onset of illness then decline.
