Instructions
Sample Collection Time: Note: The patient’s clinical condition and dosage regimen may influence the sample collection time. 1. Patient receiving Theophylline Intravenously: a. Measure 30 minutes after completion of intravenous loading dose b. Measure 4-6 hours after initiation of a constant rate infusion c. Repeat measurement 12-18 hours after initiation of a constant rate infusion d. Repeat measurement at 24-hours intervals unit infusion is discontinued 2. Patient receiving Theophylline Orally: a. Measure trough concentration immediately before the next dose b. Measure peak concentration according to the following: c. Solution or uncoated tablet: 2 hours after oral dose d. Slow-release formulations: 4 hours after oral dose 3. Patient receiving Caffeine Therapy: a. Prior to dosing patients with caffeine, baseline serum levels of caffeine should be measured for: 1. infants born to mothers who consumed caffeine prior to delivery 2. infants previously dosed with theophylline
