To prevent ureate precipitation in urine samples, add sodium hydroxide to keep urine alkaline (pH > 8.0). To achieve stated uric acid stability, add NaOH prior to sample collection.

Instructions
TO COLLECT A 24-HOUR URINE SPECIMEN: At the hour selected to start the 24-hour period, have the patient urinate and discard. From that time collect all urine passed in a clean container and transfer immediately to this bottle. DO NOT HAVE PATIENT URINATE DIRECTLY INTO THE BOTTLE. Have the patient pass the last urine at the end of the 24-hour period and add this into the bottle.
