Clinical Significance
The presence of urinary eosinophils is primarily associated with drug induced interstitial nephritis; however, small numbers of eosinophils may be seen with urinary tract infection and renal transplant rejection. Evaluation of a concentrated, stained urine sediment is required for performing a urinary eosinophil test. Eosinophils are not normally seen in the urine; therefore, the finding of 1 percent or more eosinophils is considered significant.
