Preferred Specimen
Heparinized plasma (preferred) or serum (SST). Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection
Refrigerate within 2 hours.


Patient Preparation
Criteria: • For patients receiving tobramycin via conventional dosing methods peak and trough drug monitoring should begin after a steady state is achieved (usually after 3–4 doses). 
• Samples for peak concentrations should be collected 30 minutes after intravenous infusion. 
• Samples for trough concentrations should be collected 15 minutes prior to the next scheduled dose

Minimum Volume
1 mL 


Instructions
Centrifuge within 1 hour of collection
Refrigerate within 2 hours.

Send Refrigerated (2-8C)
Transport can be with or without ice as long as its sent right away. Otherwise send with with icepack.


Specimen Stability
Storage RT: 8 hrs.  Refrigerated: 72 hrs. Frozen: 30 days
