Clinical Significance
The determination of allergen-specific IgE antibodies is a very sensitive first-order test for allergic disease. The presence of IgE antibodies to papaya in serum of a patient is highly predictive of the likelihood that the individual will exhibit immediate hypersensitivy upon exposure to the allergen.
