Clinical Significance
Microalbuminuria is characterized by urinary albumin excretion above normal levels in the absence of clinically detectable nephropathy. Mildly increased excretion of albumin has been recognized to be a predictor of impending development of clinical renal disease in patients with hypertension or diabetes mellitus.4 Microalbuminuria is noted to be present if urinary albumin is in the range of 30-300 mg/ 24 h.
