Routine venipuncture or heelstick. Bilirubin is photosensitive. Protect samples from light
Collect 2 light green (lithium heparin) tube (Microtainer)
Pediatrics: 600 mcL blood in lithium heparin Microtainer™ filled to “frosted” area
Deliver asap to lab

Specimen Stability
Refrigerate, stable 48 hours; stable 8 hours at room temperature; stable >48 hours if frozen. Protect from light.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Insufficient quantity; gross hemolysis; gross lipemia (not corrected by airfuge); failure to follow stability requirements
