Instructions

Specimens should be drawn approximately 12 hours after the last dose of lithium has been taken.




Specimen Stability
Refrigerate, stable 8 hours; stable 1 hour at room temperature; stable 6 months if frozen.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Failure to follow proper collection and handling procedures, in correct tube used


Methodology
Colorimetric:The increase in absorbance is proportional to the concentration of lithium in the sample.
