Routine venipuncture Collect one 4.5ml light green top (heparin) tube, one 2.0ml Gray top (sodium fluoride) tube or one 5ml red/gold top serum separator tube


Specimen Stability
Refrigerate, stable 48 hours; stable 8 hours at room temperature; stable >48 hours if frozen.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Insufficient quantity; gross hemolysis; failure to follow stability requirements


Methodology
Colorimetric:The oxidation of sample glucose is catalyzed by glucose oxidase to form hydrogen peroxide and gluconate.

Clinical Significance
Glucose measurements are used in the diagnosis and treatment ofcarbohydrate metabolism disorders including diabetes mellitus, neonatalhypoglycemia, idiopathic hypoglycemia, and pancreatic islet cellcarcinoma.
