Preferred Specimen
First catch Urine (dirty urine) in sterile container is optimal, can also collect in Xpert urine collection tube (yellow top).
Endocervical, Pharyngeal, or Rectal swab in Xpert transport tube (pink top).

Minimum Volume
Minimum Volume
1 vaginal swab in Xpert CT/NG Swab/G-50 transport tube (pink top)
1 endocervical or urethral swab in Xpert CT/NG Swab/G-50 transport tube (pink top)
7 mL urine in Xpert CT/NG Urine Transport Reagent tube
1 Throat Swab/ Pharyngeal in Xpert CT/NG Swab/G-50 transport tube (pink top).

Other Acceptable Specimens
Minimum Volume
1 vaginal swab in Xpert CT/NG Swab/G-50 transport tube (pink top)
1 endocervical or urethral swab in Xpert CT/NG Swab/G-50 transport tube (pink top)
7 mL urine in Xpert CT/NG Urine Transport Reagent tube
1 Throat Swab/ Pharyngeal in Xpert CT/NG Swab/G-50 transport tube (pink top).

Instructions
•  Urine: Direct patient to provide a first-catch urine (a maximum of 20-30 mL of the initial urine stream) into a urine collection cup free of any preservatives. 2 mL of urine specimen must be transferred into the Xpert CT/NG Urine Transport Reagent tube within 24 hours of primary collection. First catch male urine specimen must be transferred to the Xpert CT/NG Urine Transport Reagent tube within 3 days of primary collection if shipped and/or stored at room temperature. Minimun vol=7ml.
•  Endocervical or urethral swab: Follow instructions in the  Xpert CT/NG Swab/G-50 transport kit. In females, to ensure collection of cells infected with N. gonorrhoeae/C. trachomatis, columnar epithelial cells lining the endocervix should be obtained. Excess mucus should be removed prior to sampling.
•  Throat swab: Follow instructions in the Xpert CT/NG Swab/G-50 transport tube (pink top)
•  Rectal swab: Follow instructions in the Xpert CT/NG Swab/G-50 transport tube (pink top)
