Instructions
"Body fluids, tissue, hair, or skin scrapings in sterile container or eSwab™; cerebrospinal fluid in sterile container; swabs are acceptable for yeast recovery; first morning urine, clean catch void (refer toCollection and Handling for directions); first morning sputum If speciment is CSF also order CRAG in addition to CXFUN. If specimen is bone marrow order CXBFG. If specimen is blood order CXFNB"


Specimen Stability
Room temperature, except sputums which must be refrigerated.
Sputum for fungus and AFB culture should be received in the microbiology department within 12 hours.  They should not be un-refrigerated for more than half an hour.

 




Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Unsterile container, refrigerated (unless sputum) or frozen specimen, incorrect labeling, exceeded time limit
