Instructions
CSF: sterile collection tube/container syringe
Synovial fluid: lavender top (EDTA) tube (preferred) or green top (heparin) tube
Thoracentesis (pleural)/peritoneal/pericardial: lavender top (EDTA) tube


Specimen Stability
Room temperature for up to 4 hours (2 hours for CSF); thoracentesis/peritoneal/pericardial fluid may be refrigerated up to24 hours if testing is delayed.


Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Completely clotted specimen, but if the clot is minimal, count should be done and comment should be made regarding intergrity of specimen.
