Preferred Specimen
Conjunctiva: Sample  eye using E swabs by rolling over  conjunctiva
Corneal Scrapings:  Obtain conjunctival swab specimens as described above.
  1. Instill 2 drops of local anesthetic.
  2. Using a sterile spatula, scrape ulcers or lesions and inoculate scraping directly onto media (or alternatively place in a E swab container).
  3. Apply remaining material to 2 clean glass slides for staining if applicable.

Reject Criteria (Eg, hemolysis? Lipemia? Thaw/Other?)
Unsterile container, refrigerated or frozen specimen, incorrect labeling, exceeded time limit
